Synchronization

What is Social Synchronization?

People are sociologically synchronized when they use a communicating object at the same time as other people. (See Being an Object User) This is a secondary effect created by building on the simpler level of object use.

When people have previously learned how to use objects, they are able, at the same time as others, to see and adore the dream displayed by a new object from the moment it first appears.
Together with millions of strangers, people locate themselves in time at the same moment in history, namely at the instant when a materialized dream becomes shared.

For example, millions of people may become fans of a new actor or singer when they first appear. This can happen suddenly through identification with elements of previously attractive dream ideals which millions of people share. People have been synchronized by their shared object-use and find themselves attracted to the same dream. This typically happens when people are in the same historical cohort (generation) and share a lot of the same object-based popular culture.

Synchronization is a sociological effect that puts people in sync with the millions of strangers in their own generation.
