Seeing Generations: The New Sociology
Can all of us be helped by a better understanding of what generations are? I have studied sociology for many years and I am made happier every time I discover a new link to living generationally. There exist lots of these activities but most are, at best, very little understood.
I plan each post to be a different example of generational activity. Some of these will connect with others; they will reveal relationships such as help between people in different places and times. Other examples will illuminate personal behavior and show convergence of individuals into shared patterns of life. Surprisingly, the largest number of people acting simultaneously can be children and youth. These may involve millions of people.
How much personal change is there as we grow up? What influence does this have on the country people live in? We will find some surprising paradoxes and something new often demands our attention. For example new generations spread light on the changes in society. Welcome to the attractions and innovations that need help in being understood. In each case we can ask ourselves if we should encourage this new behavior.
